For this weeks blog post I am going to be talking about one of my favourite artists!
Now if you were in my class last year you probably know that for the speech competition I did my speech on one of my favorite artists - Edgar Degas. You might think that I am just going to write about him but I decided to broaden my horizon and branch out and do someone completely different. So the artist I am going to be writing about is....
Andy Warhol!
Only recently I found out about Andy Warhol. I was in New York and my family and I were at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and my mum kept going on and on and on about wanting to see the Andy Warhol art. After literally walking around the WHOLE MUSEUM one of us said " How about we ask someone". So we asked one of the staff and found the Andy Warhol section in two minutes. I really liked Andy Warhols style, I thought that his art was really creative and imaginative.
If you don't know much about Andy Warhol here are some interesting facts about him-
- He was born on August 6th 1928 in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania US.
- Warhol used many different types of media such as drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, silk screening, music and film.
- He started to get noticed for his drawings for shoe advertisements.
- During the 1960s he started to paint iconic American objects and people.
- Warhol died on February 22nd 1987 In New York aged 58
This is one of Andy Warhols most famous pieces of art- The Campbells soup cans.
Warhol presented it to the public in 1962. This piece was sold for 15 million US dollars and is one of the most expensive paintings in the world.
Another piece of art by Warhol that I like is his
portrait of the Chinese ruler Chairman Mao. I had read about Chairman Mao in a book somewhere (I think it was called Mao's last dancer or something???) and when I was in NYC I saw this particular piece of art. I said "Hey I know that guy!" to my parents but I think I must of said it a little bit too loudly as other people were giving me looks as if they thought I was insane (oops :P )
And that's this weeks post about an artist! I hope you all enjoyed reading!

MOMA is so Big, I understand what took so long to find it. Great post Grace!!
