ANZAC day
This years ANZAC day was pretty special as it was the 100th anniversary of the anzacs landing at Gallipoli. I didn't really know much about ANZAC day until a few weeks ago , sure I knew people from New Zealand and Australia fought in a war in Turkey but that was about it. Now I know that it was much more than some guys just going of to fight, hearing articles about the anxious families at home and the horrendous conditions the soldiers had to live in changed my view a bit.
One of the main things I didn't know was the details about the trenches. I used to think that the trenches weren't that bad- that they were dry, sheltered tunnels where the Anzacs stayed. I didn't realise that the trenches were not sheltered at all and sometimes they flooded resulting in soldiers drowning in their sleep.
i have learnt a lot about ANZAC day in these past few weeks and I hope to find out more in the near future.
